MAINTENANCE TIPS
Hand wash
- Fill a sink or basin with warm (not hot) water and a mild detergent specially formulated for silk.
- Gently dip the scarf in the water and shake it gently.
- Do not rub or twist the fabric to avoid damaging the delicate fibers.
- Let it soak for about 3-5 minutes maximum and take it out immediately.
Rinsing
- Rinse the scarf in cold water until the water runs clear and all the soap is removed.
Drying
- Do not wring the scarf to remove excess water. Instead, gently squeeze out the water by rolling the scarf in a clean, dry towel.
- Unroll the towel and place the scarf flat on another dry towel to air dry, away from direct sunlight, which could alter the colors.
Ironing
- Always iron the scarf inside out.
- If the scarf is wrinkled, dampen it slightly with a spray bottle of water and iron it on a low heat or use an iron set to "silk".
- You can also use a slightly damp ironing cloth called a damp cloth (or a piece of thin cotton) between the iron and the scarf to avoid burning or shining the fabric.
Avoid chemicals
Avoid contact with chemicals such as perfumes, hair sprays or lotions that may stain or damage the silk.
Professional cleaning
If you prefer, you can have your silk scarf cleaned by a professional who specializes in silk cleaning. Always inform the cleaner of the exact nature of the fabric.
Storage
- Store your silk scarf in a dry place and away from direct sunlight.
- Avoid hanging it as this can stretch the fabric. It is best to fold it carefully and store it in the box you received it in.
